Bottled Water Compared To Multi-Pure Water

Bottled Water
High Cost – averages $2.84 per gallon or about $2,132 per year (based on 750 gallons purchased per year).

Inconvenient – buy at store, lug home, store until used, dispose of empty bottles, etc.
Use of Fossil Fuels – Plastic bottles consist of building blocks called hydrocarbons, typically derived from petroleum or natural gas. These limited resources have been linked to global warming and environmental pollution. The transportation of bottled water uses even more fuels and causes more pollution.
Safety – Bottled water is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) whose rules completely exempt waters that are packaged and sold within the same state, which account for between 60 and 70 percent of all bottled water sold in the United States. Even when bottled waters are covered by the FDA’s rules, they are subject to less rigorous testing and purity standards than the USEPA rules which apply to city tap water.

Pollution – all of those small plastic bottles, which take years to degrade, are disposed of in landfills.
Multi-Pure Drinking Water Systems The Affordable Alternative To Bottled Water!

How To Get A Free Premium Quality Drinking Water Purification System.

Affordable – averages 8¢ per gallon or $59.95 per year for 750 gallons of refreshing, healthier, great tasting drinking water (with FilterMania Program).

Each Multi-Pure CB6 Replacement Filter Cartridge = (For only $59.95 per year / $0.08 cents per gallon)
750 Gallons of Filtered Water = 250 Cases of Bottled Water (averaging $4.00 to $5.00 or more per case / $1,000 – $1,250 per year)
 Or 150 x 5 Gallon Bottles (averaging $2.00 to $3.00 or more per gallon / $1,500 – $2,250 per year)

Convenient – delicious, safer drinking water is always available and at your fingertips at your kitchen sink.

Safer – Multi-Pure filters your tap water, removing chlorine, which gives water an objectionable taste and odor, as well as many disinfection by-products of chlorination plus many contaminants of health concern that may exceed EPA standards. The water from your Multi-Pure spout is safer, healthier, and more refreshing.

Carbon Block Filters – known as the most effective technology for reducing a wide range of harmful contaminants found in drinking water. Carbon is a natural, renewable material that has a wide range of adsorbents. Multi-Pure’s carbon block filters provide performance that can not be achieved with other filtration technologies.

Good for the environment – just one small filter to dispose of each year, and the carbon continues to adsorb harmful chemicals found in the landfill. By owning your own Drinking Water Filtration System, you can help conserve natural resources and help to protect the environment by reducing the waste of hundreds of thousands of water bottles that end up in landfills.

  • After the filter has been used, when it is thrown away, the carbon continues to adsorb harmful chemicals found in the landfill.

Business Opportunities AvailableSome bottled water costs as much as a gallon of gas. Just think, if you could own your own gas station for $59.95 a year and get a gallon of gasoline for $0.08 cents per gallon. Every person on the planet would own one. Now imagine, being able to own a franchise of gas stations, where you were able to sell gas stations for only $59.95 a year. You would have people lined up for miles to buy one. Well, that my friends is the future of drinking water. Once people realize that they can get a better quality of drinking water for a fraction of the cost of bottled water, and get paid to tell others how much money they can save over bottled water, what a better planet we would have. Just think of all the plastic water bottles not cluttering up the landfills. And think of how much more convenient it would be, not to have to lug those heavy plastic bottles home from the vending machines or grocery stores any more. Or lift those heavy 5 gallon bottles onto the water cooler.  This Opportunity is great for Handymen, Plumbing / Heating and Air Conditioning Repairmen or suppliers, Private Contractors, Housing Developers and Public Government-Funded Projects. Sales Experience is not required. Are you a building contractor looking for green / environmentally friendly ways to provide healthy, great tasting drinking water for your environmentally conscious customers, and to contribute to reducing the amount of water bottles in the landfills? A Drinking Water Filtration Systems Technology Comparison Chart December 30, 2008

Drinking Water Filtration Systems Technology Comparison Chart

Compare Solid Carbon Block Technology to other water treatment/filter technologies:

There are more than 500 companies that sell drinking water systems for the treatment of various contaminants. Although hundreds of companies make devices that can remove chlorine from water, only thirty-seven (37) of those companies offer drinking water treatment systems that are certified by NSF to reduce Lead and twenty-one (21) have listings for the reduction of
Trihalomethanes (a disinfectant byproduct known to cause cancer in humans) under NSF’s Standard No. 53, Health Effects (June, 1996 Listings). And, only twenty-one companies have devices certified by NSF to reduce both Lead and Trihalomethanes. Our Drinking Water Systems’ products are among those select few.
There are four things to consider when looking for an effective drinking water filter.
NSF Certification, Cost,
Ongoing Cost, and Warranty.

Our Solid Carbon Block:

Water is forced through the pores of the densely compacted carbon block, where a combination of mechanical filtration, electrokinetic adsorption, and physical/ chemical adsorption take place to reduce a wide range of contaminants. Solid Carbon Block technology can reduce Chlorine, Taste and Odor problems, Particulate Matter, And A Wide Range of Contaminants of health concern –
Cysts (Cryptosporidium and Giardia),
VOC’s (Pesticides, Herbicides, and Chemicals), certain
Endocrine Disrupters,
Trihalomethanes (cancer-causing disinfection by-products), Heavy Metals (Lead, Mercury),
Turbidity, and Asbestos. Solid carbon block filters do not remove healthful, naturally-occurring minerals, do not waste water, require no electricity, and do not add salt or silver to the water. Our Solid Carbon Block filters provide an unlimited daily supply of refreshing , delicious tasting , and safer drinking water , plus you only need to change the filter once a year or every 1,200 gallons , whichever comes first.
Emergency Kit available for use with our drinking water filtration systems in emergency situations.
Our Drinking Water Systems have been certified or registered by the states of California, Iowa, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and Colorado (all the states that regulate drinking water systems).

Additional Advantages.
If you don’t have a good quality filter, you are the filter!

Granular Activated Carbon:

In this type of filter, water flows through a bed of charcoal granules, which traps the particulate matter, adsorbs some chlorine, and removes tastes and odors. It is possible for the water to channel around the carbon granules, thus avoiding filtration. If the granules are not impregnated with silver nitrate (which is considered to be a poison), the granular beds may become breeding grounds for bacterial growth. This type of filter is primarily used for aesthetic treatment, since it can reduce chlorine and particulate matter as well as improve the taste and odor of the water. Granular Activated Carbon filters, because the water
can channel around the carbon granules, are not effective in reducing contaminants of health concern (cysts, VOCs, trihalomethanes, endocrine disrupters, mercury, lead, or asbestos).

  • These come in powdered or granulated form which allows water to flow around rather than through the carbon.
  • Referred to as taste and odor filters because of the limited contact time the water has with the carbon.
  • Can promote the growth of bacteria.

Silver-Charcoal Filters (Bacteriostatic):

  • Same as charcoal filters above; however, uses silver to inhibit the growth of bacteria while water sits in filter.
  • Silver ingested in certain doses can be poisonous to the human body; therefore, it must be registered with the EPA as containing a poisonous substance.

NOTE: August, 1989 Federal Trade Commission Report states, “Studies on the effectiveness of Bacteriostatic filters have shown unpromising results as to their ability to control bacterial growth.”

Ceramic Filters:

  • Ceramic filters use a process whereby water is forced through the pores of the ceramic filtration media, providing mechanical filtration only.
  • This type of filter can reduce asbestos, cysts (if the pores are one micron or smaller), and particulate matter.
  • Ceramic filters cannot reduce VOCs, endocrine disrupters, trihalomethanes, mercury or lead.

Distillation:

Water is heated to boiling and turns to vapor, leaving behind contaminants. The water vapor enters a condenser where it is cooled and returned to a liquid state, ready for use. If works slowly, taking a few hours to produce the first quart of water, and uses a lot of electricity (costing consumers approximately $240 per year). The distillation process does kill cysts (giardia, cryptosporidium). VOCs, endocrine disrupters, and trihalomethanes, because of their volatile nature (“volatile” meaning that these chemicals can be evaporated and then recondensed into a liquid state), are not effectively reduced by distillation. Distillation reduces heavy metals, but through the same process also removes beneficial minerals.

  • Removes dissolved minerals and trace elements essential to good health.
  • No independent ability to remove all chemicals – the chemicals can vaporize and/or recondense into the distilled water.
  • Daily chore to provide enough water for the entire family.
  • Requires electricity at a cost of about $240.00 per year.

Reverse Osmosis (RO):

Reverse Osmosis is a process that forces, by the application of pressure, the water to pass through a semi-permeable membrane that rejects contaminants suspended in the water. The product water passes through to a holding tank. The process is slow and wastes 3 – 9 gallons for every one gallon of drinking water produced. May require professional installation. These systems reduce heavy metals and minerals **(including healthful, naturally-occurring minerals) Reverse Osmosis does not effectively reduce VOCs, endocrine disrupters, pesticides, or trihalomethanes. The reverse osmosis membrane can also be sensitive to certain water characteristics. Reverse Osmosis delivers a limited supply of water (due to the holding tank).

  • No independent ability to reduce most Volatile Organic Chemicals. (Without Solid Carbon Post Filter).
  • Very low output – takes up to 24 hours to process 5 gallons of water.
  • Must have holding tank to store the processed water.
  • Wastes water – for every gallon processed, 3 to 9 gallons are wasted.
  • Removes minerals and trace elements essential to good health.

For those who either require or prefer reverse osmosis for various reasons, ask about Our Reverse Osmosis System that has our Solid Carbon Block as the Final (Post) Filter for better performance, please e-mail
gallimore@multipureusa.com for further details and request info regarding the RO II Plus.
**According to Hamilton and Whitney’s Nutrition, “soft water [water with the minerals removed] appears to contribute to a higher incidence of hypertension and heart disease in areas where it is used. Hard water [that retains its beneficial, naturally-occurring minerals] may oppose these conditions.”
Mixed Media:

  • This type of filter is specially engineered for specific contaminant reduction. For example, KDF filters reduce chlorine well; ATS filters reduce lead well.
  • These filters show a high performance against the specific contaminants, but not against other contaminants.

Ion Exchange Treatment (Water Softeners):

  • Ion Exchange uses the chemical ion exchange process to exchange anions or cations on a “resin” bed for cations or anions of the contaminant that needs to be reduced (usually heavy metals or minerals like lead or mercury).
  • Water softeners are neither filters nor purifiers and are used only to change the water hardness.
  • Softeners put sodium into the water in exchange for magnesium or calcium ions. It is recommended that water softeners be bypassed when installing a water filter.
  • Most softeners must be professionally installed.

UltraViolet Treatment:

  • Water passes through a chamber where it is exposed to Ultraviolet radiation.
  • Very turbid water can reduce the effectiveness of this type of treatment.
  • This treatment is effective against many bacterial contaminants but is not effective in reducing cryptosporidium.
  • Other contaminants of health concern (VOCs, endocrine disrupters, asbestos, trihalomethanes, mercury, and lead) are not affected by ultraviolet treatment.

Carafes/Pitchers:

These “pour through” types of filters are mainly taste and odor filters. Some are effective against lead and/or chlorine. The internal filter is usually a mixed media or granular carbon. These filters do not reduce other contaminants of health concern. There is a limited supply of water since the carafe can only hold approximately 2-3 quarts, which makes this type of filter somewhat inconvenient. Also, water that is filtered by this method usually must be kept refrigerated.

  • Limited in its ability to remove contaminants of health concern.
  • Limited in its ability to microstrain the water.
  • Most do not reduce microscopic cysts (Giardia Lambia or Cryptosporidium), asbestos, THMs, Pesticides, VOCs, etc.
  • Must replace filters about every 35 gallons.
  • Although the initial cost is low, the ongoing cost of filters can be expensive. Each replacement filter costs $7.00 – $10.00 or between $150.00 – $200.00 for 750 gallons compared to our 750 gallon filter for $59.95.
  • Inconvenient to use. First you draw the water from the tap, then pour the water through the filter, refrigerate and wait.

Ozonation:

  • Ozonation “super-oxygenates” the water which can kill bacteria with adequate contact time.
  • This process is often used at public water utilities and not in the home at point-of-use or point-of-entry.
  • This is a process that only addresses bacterial contamination.
  • This type of treatment can create by-products in the treated water. Some of the created by-products also allow for increased bacterial growth in the pipes down the line which contributes to re-infection of the water.

How Our System Compares to Bottled
Water:

YOU can stop the waste of 100’s of millions of bottles of water.
Each and every day millions of bottles of water are thrown away.

It is estimated that only 1 out of 10 bottles are recycled.

The rest are thrown into the garbage, and are overwhelming our landfills.
Did you know that one CB6 Filter is equivalent to:

- 250 cases of bottled water? (At a cost of $4.00 – $5.00 or more per case)

- That is 6,000 16oz bottles of water! (At a cost of $.20 – $1.00 or more per bottle)

- Or 150 x 5 gallon bottles (At a cost of $2.00 – $3.00 per gallon)

It is also a huge savings.

- 1 CB6 costs only $59.95 per year, only 8 cents a gallon

- These 6,000 bottles of water would cost you between $1,200 – $3,000 or more each year!
Making the switch to Multi-Pure has many benefits:

  • Better Water For You and Your Family
  • Conveniently available at your tap
  • Helps the environment
  • Saves you MONEY!

It has been said that within the next ten years, 43% of the American homes will have a drinking water treatment device in their homes. In an effort to improve the taste and quality of their drinking water, many consumers turn to bottled water as a first alternative to drinking unfiltered tap water. Bottled water is very popular in the United States, but what is in bottled water? US News reported in April of 1999 that, Just because it’s bottled doesn’t mean it’s cleaner than what you get from your faucet. In fact, about 25 percent of bottled water is just prettily packaged tap water, according to a report released last week by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The agency researched and tested more than 1,000 bottles of 103 brands of bottled water over a four-year period.
Nearly one third showed some signs of contamination from bacteria and potentially carcinogenic chemicals such as arsenic and trihalomethanes. While these contaminants do not pose serious health risks to most people, the water could be dangerous for people with vulnerable immune systems, frail elderly people, some infants, and transplant or cancer patients, according to the council. In addition, infrequent testing for contaminants and sporadic inspection of processing plans must be solved before bottled water can be assumed to be sanitary as even regular U.S. tap water. Currently bottled water companies are not required to test for Cryptosporidium, even though bottled water sources often are just as prone to Crypto contamination as any other drinking water source.
The very informative NRDC Report also states, “while Americans who choose to buy bottled water deserve the assurance that it is safe, the long-term solution to our drinking water problems is to ensure that safe, clean, good-tasting drinking water comes from our taps. Those who are particularly concerned about the quality of their tap water can take action by 1) calling their state drinking water program or the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800 426-4791) for a list of state certified labs; and 2) purchasing filters certified by
NSF International (800 NSF-MARK) to remove the contaminants of special concern to the consumer.”
Bottled Water is:

  • Expensive
  • Limited in Quantity
  • Questionable in Quality
  • Inconvenient
